Why is this important?

When you delete a file in Apple’s finder, Windows Explorer or the Windows or OSX command line, only the directory entry is deleted. The blocks on your disk still contain the deleted files’ content.
Even when you delete these from the trash, although the blocks are available to be used by Windows or OSX when you create new files, at any given time, many or most of these “free blocks” still contain their original content and could be read by a malevolent actor who got hold of your device.

Use the E(r)aser utility to write over all your files’ content and then delete your files, so that you know your files and your information are securely and forever unobtainable.

You can also use E(r)aser prior to turning in an old computer for recycling.

E(r)aser can erase

• A single file
• All files in an entire directory
• All files in an entire directory structure (the directory and all its sub-directories)

in a single action with a carefully crafted user interface that tries to ensure that no mistakes are made (as the action cannot be undone).

Each E(r)aser license is valid for 4 computers.
